Have you ever wanted an Aquarium with tropical fish but you were hesitant to get one because you didn't know enough about tropical fish? Tropical fish are not that difficult to care for. I've had several aquariums in my life and I've had some beautiful tropical fish that live to be quite old with proper care. There are many hundreds of species of freshwater tropical fish. Most people that are beginners will buy the smaller fish and buy them in pairs. Beginners will need to depend on a knowledgeable dealer to help them select healthy, compatible fishes that they can afford.

Guppy: This fish is from South America and Trinidad. It is a domesticated fish, having been bred and selected for many decades, and very few if any wild type of fishes are imported.

The Swordtail: The Swordtail is from Central America and it is a favorite. The male has a sword like tail. These are beautiful.

The Mollies: The black variety is the most popular although they come in different colors.

The Barbs: The barbs are an old favorite. They come mostly from India and the far east. They are easy to keep, colorful and usually peaceful fish.

The Danios: These fish come from India. They are very worthwhile fishes. The Zebra Danio is probably the best know, a small fish with horizonal black stripes. A very easy fish to keep or breed.

The Tetras: These fishes are from South America. There are probably 2000 species of the Tetra fishes. Many of them are good Aquarium fishes and they are small and colorful. These fishes are long standing favorites.

There are many more varieties than I have mentioned here. When you are ready, go to your favorite pet store and most likely they will have a display of many kinds of tropical fish. Ask someone who works there to help you pick out the fish that you want and have them tell you about the fish; its eating habits and whether or not it will get along with the other fish you have chosen.
